The Intel based servers in Web Race performed well, often as well as many of the workstations. A group of lightly loaded Pentiums on fast University lines were delivering the test page in under 15 seconds (fast average).
There was a variety of operating systems and server software. Linux was the most common operating system, but Windows and BSD were also represented. Apache was the most common server software, but NCSA, CERN, Website, Vermeer and Microsoft IIS were all present. The number of different combinations of OS and server software meant that no particular combinations could be tagged as performing particularly better or worse than the average for the group.
